Jose Sanchez

When asked what his reason was for serving our country, Jose Sanchez will tell you, “I love my country, and when I am needed to protect Her from foreign and domestic enemies, I will stand to be called because so many Americans take our freedom for granted.”

The Upstate New York native served for over 20 years as a National Guardsman and a soldier. He completed Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, before Active Duty took him around the world. Jose was stationed in Germany first, before transferring back to his home state of New York. He was stationed at the World Trade Center in 2000, approximately one year before the terrorist attacks took place. He was later stationed in Afghanistan to contribute towards Operations Enduring Freedom. Jose earned the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 2007.

As a result of his service, Jose sustained Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury, COPD, Cervical Radiculopathy, and Muscular Degenerative Disease. Every day activities became a struggle. Jose has had difficulty receiving the assistance he needs, especially at home.

Now a resident of Florida, Jose spends his free time enjoying hobbies in photography, cooking, and traveling. He still faces difficulties accomplishing many daily activities. Bathing and showering have become some of his most problematic tasks. Purple Heart Homes will renovate Jose’s bathroom to give him a walk-in shower, which will alleviate the frustrations associated with that aspect of his home life. “Thank you, Purple Heart Homes, for all of your help,” Jose tells us.

Thank you, Jose, for your many years of service to our nation! Welcome to our Purple Heart Homes family!
