Purple Heart Homes Meets with VA Leadership to Advocate for Veterans' Access to Benefits

Last Updated 10/20/2025Posted in In The News

Earlier this week, Purple Heart Homes Co-Founder and CEO John Gallina and Board Member Mike Lennon met with Deputy Secretary of Veteran Affairs, the Honorable Dr. Paul Lawrence, and Senior Advisor Mr. Mike Stoddard to discuss inconsistencies in federal income calculation methods that have disqualified nearly 200,000 Veterans from receiving benefits and nonprofit services they've earned.

For more than 17 years, Purple Heart Homes has proudly served as a national advocate for Veterans of all generations. Through hands-on experience and direct service, the organization has gained a unique insight into the challenges facing Veterans navigating housing and benefit systems. This meeting with the Department of Veterans Affairs represents a significant step toward aligning federal benefit criteria with the real-world needs of those who served.

"Over the years, we've learned a lot about the services that help Veterans in the housing and aging area," said Mike Lennon, Purple Heart Homes Board Member. "Our advocacy and analysis have enabled us to help draft pending legislation now in the Senate, so nearly 200,000 more Veterans from all generations can receive the benefits they deserve and save our government a lot of money."

Purple Heart Homes' leadership continues to work closely with policymakers, partners, and advocates nationwide to ensure that no Veteran is left behind at home. The organization's ongoing commitment to compassion, integrity, teamwork, and excellence drives its efforts not only in building homes, but also in building awareness and shaping national policy that honors the service and sacrifice of every Veteran.

The VA is listening, and Purple Heart Homes is proud to contribute meaningful input and ideas toward solutions that make life better for those who have worn our nation's uniform.

Together, we're ensuring every Veteran's service is honored with action.
