Milton Beamon

Milton Beamon is a very compassionate man. He is well known in his hometown of Statesville, NC, and still carries the childhood nickname, Screamin’ Demon, because he likes to have fun. Milton believes when you smile, the whole world smiles with you!

Milton wasn’t always as happy as he is now. He didn’t really have any family around growing up, except his Dad, and things got tougher for him after high school. He was pretty lonely, so he decided to join the U.S. Army in 1968.

Basic Training for Milton was completed at Fort Bragg, NC, and then on to Fort Jackson, SC, for AIT school. He was in 11- Charlie Infantry. By the time he finished his training, the Vietnam War was winding down, so his unit was stationed in Germany on standby in case they were needed. After Germany, Milton was sent to Fort Dix, NJ, where he was honorably discharged in 1970.

When Milton returned home he felt slightly disjointed, but he surrounded himself with good friends, and was accepted lovingly by his wife’s family. These were the important things that helped him transition from the military into civilian life. Milton married Chris in 1972. Chris was a nurse at Iredell Hospital, where she was employed for 30 years. Milton worked at Statesville Plywood and Veneer as a Clipper Operator, and ironically, this facility is now the headquaters for Purple Heart Homes. Milton later moved on to Mitchell Community College as their Groundskeeper until he retired. The Beamons have been happily married for 46 years. Milton says that Chris is his “soulmate and best friend. I love her more today than when I first met her. We have never had an argument and life has been so good with her.”

Milton is currently suffering from back issues due to degenerative disk disease and neuropathy. Chris also has debilitating health issues. They help each other as best they can. Purple Heart Homes made repairs to the Beamons outside deck, fixed their bedroom floor along with a bathroom remodel. All their exterior doors were replaced as well.

The Beamons are very appreciative of the work that was done to their home. “What started as a few items to be fixed became a lot worse as they discovered more and more work that needed to be done. PHH didn’t just patch things, they fixed them. Everyone who worked on the project was very professional and very respectful. They took such great care of us. Purple Heart Homes warmed our hearts.”
