For U.S. Army veteran Lauren Hogan, a house in Bessemer City represents more than shelter; it’s a turning point. Hogan, who earned a Purple Heart after surviving a deadly attack during the Iraq War, has struggled for years with PTSD, job uncertainty, and single motherhood. Now, thanks to Purple Heart Homes, her fixer-upper is being transformed into a safe and welcoming home for her and her two daughters. With renovations underway and a community of volunteers behind her, Hogan sees more than walls going up; she sees a future finally taking shape.
