Purple Heart Homes Showcases Innovative Veteran Housing on the National Mall
American-made modular home demonstrates how innovation, accessibility and partnership can help more Veterans live safely and independently.
Purple Heart Homes took its mission to the nation’s front yard this week as an exhibitor at the 2026 HUD Innovative Housing Showcase on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
Under this year’s “Made in America” theme, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development brought together American builders, manufacturers and innovators to demonstrate housing solutions designed to expand housing supply, reduce construction costs and create new pathways to homeownership. For Purple Heart Homes, the opportunity was about more than displaying a house.
It was an opportunity to show what innovative housing can mean for the service-connected disabled and aging Veterans the organization serves: greater safety, accessibility and independence at home.
A Home People Could Experience
Throughout the Showcase, visitors stepped inside the American-made modular home, asked questions and learned how thoughtful design and innovative construction can be applied to the housing needs of Veterans.
The full-scale home gave those conversations something tangible.
Instead of simply talking about accessible housing solutions, Purple Heart Homes could invite people through the front door and demonstrate how innovation, design and collaboration can translate into a place someone can call home.

Sharing the Mission on a National Stage
The Showcase also created opportunities for Purple Heart Homes to talk directly with policymakers, housing leaders, partners and members of the public about the challenges Veterans can face in their homes and the solutions that can help.
Against the backdrop of the Washington Monument, those conversations connected the work happening in individual communities with a much larger national conversation about housing innovation.
HUD designed the Showcase to bring policymakers, industry representatives and the public together to experience new housing technologies and approaches firsthand.
Recognition from Congressman Pat Harrigan
Purple Heart Homes was also joined during the week by Congressman Pat Harrigan, who visited the exhibit and recognized the organization and its work serving Veterans.
The moment provided another opportunity to highlight a mission that began in Statesville, North Carolina, and continues to grow through partnerships and communities across the country.
For Purple Heart Homes, national recognition ultimately points back to the Veterans at the center of that mission and the belief that every Veteran deserves a safe place to call home.

The 2026 HUD Innovative Housing Showcase demonstrated what becomes possible when nonprofit organizations, government, industry partners, supporters and communities come together around housing solutions.
Purple Heart Homes is grateful to HUD, Congressman Harrigan, our partners and supporters, and the many people who stepped inside the home, asked questions and took time to learn more about our work.
