Veteran's Story: Jeremiah Shattuck

Last Updated 8/19/2025Posted in Veteran Stories

In Oracle, Arizona, Purple Heart Homes served Veteran Jeremiah Shattuck, a decorated Marine Corps Veteran, through the Veterans Aging in Place (VAIP) Program. With leadership from Project Manager Lamar Austin, and in partnership with Owens Corning's Roof Deployment Project, a critical roof replacement was completed to help Jeremiah live safely and with dignity.

Jeremiah's Service

Born in 1981, Jeremiah Shattuck served in the United States Marine Corps from November 2000 to July 2005. His service spanned two major campaigns, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, where he earned the rank of E4 before being honorably discharged.

Jeremiah is a highly decorated Veteran, having earned the:

  • Global War on Terrorism Service Medal
  • Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal
  • Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal
  • Sea Service Deployment Ribbon
  • National Defense Service Medal
  • Armed Forces Reserve Medal with "M" Device
  • Navy Presidential Unit Citation
  • Letter of Appreciation
  • Rifle Marksman Badge

In addition to his distinguished record, Jeremiah continues to serve through active involvement with the Semper Fi Fund and American Fund, organizations supporting wounded and critically ill Veterans.

A Mission of Safety and Security

Following his military service, Jeremiah has endured numerous service-connected injuries, including PTSD, hearing loss, back problems, and more. When his roof became a safety concern, he reached out to Purple Heart Homes for assistance.

Thanks to the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project and their trusted Platinum Preferred Contractor, Johnson Roofing, Jeremiah received a brand-new roof, restoring security and comfort to his home and peace of mind for his daily life.

Partners That Make It Possible

This project would not have been possible without the generous support of Owens Corning and their long-standing partnership with Purple Heart Homes. Their commitment to giving back to Veterans ensures that critical needs like roofing, insulation, and safety can be addressed with quality and care.

Our Mission in Action

At Purple Heart Homes, we're dedicated to helping Veterans like Jeremiah remain safe, secure, and independent in the homes they love. Projects like this are a reminder that honoring service means action, meeting Veterans where they are with compassion and solutions.
