Veteran Story: Cornell Bailey

Last Updated 8/19/2025

In Houston, Texas, Purple Heart Homes proudly partnered with The Home Depot Foundation to bring meaningful home improvements to U.S. Navy Veteran Cornell Bailey. This project was part of the Veterans Aging in Place (VAIP) Program and aimed to address Cornell's needs for new flooring, a door replacement, drywall work, and fresh paint, upgrades that will enhance the safety, comfort, and quality of his home.

A Life of Service and Resilience

Cornell, born in 1989, served in the U.S. Navy from October 2012 to August 2016. He was honorably discharged at the rank of E2, having committed himself to his duties with integrity and dedication. Cornell's service left him with several service-connected injuries, including PTSD, issues with his knee, back, and sensorineural hearing loss. These challenges make having a safe and accessible home even more important.

The improvements made through this project will allow Cornell to live more comfortably and with greater peace of mind. Purple Heart Homes is honored to support his journey post-service and ensure his home environment meets his needs.

Thank You to our Partners

This project would not have been possible without the generosity of The Home Depot Foundation. Their continued commitment to Veterans allows us to provide essential repairs and modifications that restore dignity and independence to those who served.
