Veteran's Story: Robert Pitchford

Last Updated 8/23/2025Posted in Veteran Stories

At Purple Heart Homes, we are proud to continue our mission of serving those who once served us. Through our Veterans Aging in Place (VAIP) Program and with the support of our partner, The Home Depot Foundation, we recently completed a project for U.S. Marine Corps Veteran Robert Pitchford.

About the Veteran

Robert Pitchford was born in 1947 and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1966 to 1970 during the Vietnam War era. He was honorably discharged after his service to our nation. Like many Veterans, Robert continues to live with service-connected health challenges, including limited use of his foot and arm.

The Need

When Robert reached out to Purple Heart Homes, his home was in need of multiple critical repairs. His bathroom flooring required replacement, his windows and doors were more than 50 years old, and he requested that we check the bathroom walls for any potential mold damage. These needs were impacting his safety, comfort, and overall quality of life.

The Project

Led by Project Manager Lamar Austin, our team worked to ensure Robert's home became safer, more efficient, and more comfortable. By addressing his flooring, assessing and improving the bathroom structure, and replacing outdated windows and doors, this project provided Robert with the secure and accessible living environment he deserves.

Gratitude for Our Partners

This project was made possible thanks to the continued generosity of The Home Depot Foundation. Their commitment to supporting Veterans allows us to provide essential repairs and modifications that help aging and service-connected Veterans remain safe and independent in their homes.

Call to Action

At Purple Heart Homes, we believe every Veteran deserves to live with dignity and independence. Projects like Robert's are only possible through the generosity of our partners, volunteers, and supporters.
